Feeling of Christmas Over Time

As we grow older, our sense of awe and wonder greatly diminishes.  That which once brought us joy, excitement, or that warm, fuzzy feeling ceases to incite such a response.  Take for example the feeling of Christmas.  Christmas, to me as a little kid, was my favorite holiday.  I remember being all anxious waiting for its arrival that I kept a little mental countdown which started pretty early usually being almost six months in advance.

Now my family wasn't the one that gave gifts to each other so that was not the reason why I looked forward to Christmas.  In fact, I'm not exactly sure as to why I love Christmas so much.  I guess it was that feeling of being with family to celebrate a special occasion together.  The tradition at our house is pretty simple and low key.  On Christmas Eve we would attend mass late at night followed by a meal with the family either that night or the following morning.  After we finished eating, there was time for pictures with the family and then game time of some sort (Bingo, Blackjack, Monopoly, etc).

Although we are keeping that tradition alive to this day, it no longer feels the same to me.  I think that is one of the reason I hate growing up.  Over time it seems like we become pretty much numb inside because we have been through so much and seen so much that everything seem plain and bland.

Rant on TV

I spent a decent amount of time yesterday watching TV.  Nowadays, this is not a normal occurrence since I could view most of those content on the web with fewer commercials.  Plus, I think that a fair amount of the shows aren't worth my time.  The variety and creativity of the materials being broadcasted, in my opinion, has really gone downhill over the years.  There are so many rip-off shows, reality shows, and shows that are just being milked for all it's worth that it becomes mind-numbing painful to watch them all.

I think with only a couple of keywords I can cover a lot of the shows currently on TV. (Now this is for local channels, not cable since I don't have that anymore.  Although the last time I had cable, a lot of time was just spent flipping through the channels with nothing to watch.)  Those keywords would be: doctor, cops, vampire, court, reality (the one that follows a person or a group of people like The Real World or Jersey Shore).  This list is by no means complete but these are the things that came to mind.  It's still early in th morning so I'm not totally wake as well.

Now of the list above, the two that annoys me the most are the last two listed.  How many court TV shows do we really need?  To name a few: People's Court, Judge Judy, Judge Mathis, Judge Joe Brown, Judge Hatchett, Moral Court, Divorce Court, Texas Justice, Judge Wapner's Animal Court, Judge Mills Lane, Judge Maria Lopez.  OMG!!!  I must admit there might be an interesting case every now and then but seriously do we need that many show over the law system.  Law is not one of those topic that is entertaining in the least unless you are a lawyer or something of that sort in which case that might tickle your fancy.  Other than that, I don't think a normal person would want to sit through a court case or to watch it on TV.

I'm not even going to go into reality shows.  This post is getting long enough.  Last thing I want to end on is MTV should change their name since they don't show that many music videos anymore!!!

First time

I've been meaning to pick up blogging for awhile now but I'm not sure where to start and what to write about.  At this rate though I don't think I will get anywhere so I might as well dive right in to get my feet wet.   Today is a great day to start this little side hobby as well given the fact that I"m not feeling very well and can't seem to concentrate with my studies.

Reasons for starting this blog
This blog is mainly for me to improve my writing skills and to help me better express myself.  I find it hard at times to put my words down onto paper while retaining the meanings and feelings that I had in mind.  Hopefully, I can improve upon that through these somewhat daily posts.

What kind of posts will you see?
I'm not exactly sure as to the direction of this blog yet.  I believe, however, that my posts will be as varied and as random as my life.  It could range from something that has happened to me during the day to my obsession with a celebrity/someone/or something.  Or it could be just a random thought that crossed my mind.  With each post, I plan on including a "new word of the day" and actually using it in a sentence.

Wow, this first post was actually longer than I expected.  :)  That's it for today.
